Low Dose Naltextrone, Specific Carbohydrate Diet and Fecal Infusion..

Low Dose Naltextrone, Specific Carbohydrate Diet and Fecal Infusion.. Wheatgrass, fasting, dietary restrictions, turmeric/curcumin... Water filters, special breads, etc etc.

Prednisone, Asacol, Salofalk, Cortisone enemas, Prednisone, Budesonide enemas, Remicade (Infliximab), Immuran, Mercaptopurine.

Ok, so I tried 'em all. I made myself into a guinea pig and tried everything except the whipworms.

The treatments all work to varying degrees. Remember that IBD seems to manifest somewhat differently for each patient, that's why Remicade works for some and not for others. In my case Prednisone worked great at first. But with each use it became less effective. The best thing of all were the hydrocortisone enemas. The most interesting of all were the fecal infusions as they stopped the bleeding, cold, but only for 24-48 hours. I theorize that this must have been because my own immune system was attacking the foreign bacteria and was distracted from attacking my colon.

Immuran got me sick as it destroyed my immune system's neutrophil production. It nearly killed me. I'm kinda happy I got off it (and off the Remicade too) as I didn't want to risk Lymphomatic cancer.

Omega 3 oils: Although flaxseed oil is a far less potent source of DHA/EPA than marine sources, I used them all. Neither did me much good except for the huge pimples I got all over my face.

The Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) was great. It let me keep symptoms at bay for many months. Though I never completely stopped bleeding. I kept losing weight and slowly the disease continued to worsen. That's probably my fault to some degree as after 5 months of some success I tried a bit of rice and then flared out wickedly again. Had I stuck to the SCD religously for 5 years it may have helped. On the other hand, it was gross to eat like that...and time consuming and the yogurt from it, even when dripped caused me to bleed. Oh and the juices and fruits gave me wicked bloating too (fructose intolerance I suppose).

Low dose naltrexone: This worked but only reduced my C reactive proteins by 2 units from 60 to 58 (0 to a max of 3 is normal). And put me in such a foul mood. And made it hard to sleep. If I had a minor flare this could have been a magic elixir.

Some of these treatments may have worked better had I tried them earlier before the flares got so bad. Your mileage may vary. Godspeed. Make sure you keep the illness at bay before it gets worse. After all, the worse it gets, the worse it will get.
