I am making my final mental preparations to accept myself regardless of how I look/feel after surgery. After all, I can't control the physical side of things though I have a bit of control over my emotional state. I've spent months now looking at stomas and trying to accept having my body altered like this.
I thank my lucky stars for having such a supportive family (including my in laws). I gush when I think of how loving and accepting my wife is. I am truly blessed. Even if I return from surgery with my intestines dangling 3 feet out of my belly like a baby elephant's trunk I know she will love me the same. Even if I learn new Elvis Presley style dance moves where my dangling intestines are adorned with gold sequins and become the center of the action, she will be my buddy and be joyful with me. Even if I come back from surgery looking like Vladimir Putin, she will love me.
She better. Otherwise I'll stop paying the bills and cut her off from all the TV shows I download daily.
Congrats on getting your surgery date moved closer! You're almost there! I think you will be just fine after the surgery. My stoma nurse had told me that she has a lot of patients that do not handle the transition well. But because I did so much research beforehand and mentally prepared myself, I was very accepting of the new lifestyle. I think you will be too!

You will be in my prayers and positive thoughts. Think well and be well. In one month, you will be x-mas shopping with your wife - and not even give a thought to where the closest bathroom is. It will not matter - I know you can't believe that now- but you will be healthy.
ReplyDeleteNow I really hope that your transformation after your opration will not be too drastic, as I think cutting your wife off from all the TV shows download daily is a rather harsh and unjust punishment. I for one wouldn't stand for such cruelty. (Just kidding.)
