Day 1 Timeline and conditioning

With colitis, I found that as soon as I left my place (actually as soon as I got away from the toilet) I would feel panic. I'd feel scared and search for bushes and be obsessed with having an "attack". And rightly so as these "attacks" happened a lot.

Well, now I've been "cured". I stepped outside today and as soon as I got outside I felt the need to go potty. Ah, the power of conditioning. I ran back inside just in case there was some truth to it. It was kind of funny in a Pavlovian kind of way.

Anyways here is how Day 1 has progressed:

Midnight-1am: Felt sorry for myself as if this is the worst thing in the world and I'm the only one afflicted...
1am-6am: Cramps and pain, very hard to sleep until I took painkillers (thanks EGB for the idea; I'm not too bright sometimes)- Could it be the salt and vinegar chips and hummus?
6am-12:30pm: Slept like a log
12:30pm-1:30pm: Felt sorry for myself again
1:30pm-2:00pm: Fretted about emptying bags (still have the huge hospital drainage bag)
2:00pm-2:01pm: Emptied bags and it was such a small deal but holy **** does it stink, I have to cover my nose
2:01pm-2:30pm: Sat down and then felt lazy to get up. I did think about getting up though.
2:30pm:3:00pm: Finally got up. Ate lots of soup and drank lots of water.
3:00pm-4:00pm: Played fetch with Mousey for 40 minutes (I just sit there and she brings the ball) and then walked for 19 minutes. 1 minute spent looking in the mirror wondering if I could be an extra in a holocaust film
4:00pm-4:15pm: Updated this blog entry
4:15pm-4:30pm: Pondered how sore my butt is because there's no fat left on it and every seat seems hard
4:30pm-: Sat on my sore butt, watching movies, wasting time, hoping that the cramps are not so bad tonight.

  1. Chips aren't giving me any problems at all, but since chickpeas are on the do-not-eat list they gave me I've been avoiding hummus.

Have you tried the bag deodorizer they probably gave you with your kit but never mentioned (to me at least) in hospital? The stuff actually works pretty well.

  2. The hospital dietician was the one who recommended the hummus! She said that as it was blended well it would be ok. I'm not sure it's the culprit as everything seems to cramp me (yesterday I avoided the hummus). I still have the tube in... the twist they found via CT scan must be causing this.

  3. Ah, the sore butt because of no fat left to provide padding. I still sit on a pillow at work, lol. I can sit in a regular chair for a couple hours, but for an 8-hour day, I need my pillow.

Hang in there! Use the painkillers - that's why they gave them to you!

  4. What painkillers?! I think Jack got some to take home but I forgot to ask for them.
