Now that I'm letting pedestrian concerns like my temporary employment woes cloud my healing and second chance at life, I'm tempted to make a new blog and restart. Perhaps
A second chance - v2.0 ... or should I call it "A third chance"?
How many chances do I get?

Nah - this is still your second chance at life. But life is a roller coaster - it is full of ups and downs. You're just in a little dip right now, but you'll climb out of it with flying colors! Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteSteven,
ReplyDeleteI have been a lurker since you posted your blog to the United Ostomy Association message board. As I'm sure you've been told by numerous readers, I've enjoyed your writing immensely.
This post, and specically your question of "How many chances do I get"?, prompted me to switch from lurker to participant.
I'be been a huge fan of singer / songwriter Kenny Loggins for some 30 years. He has a song called "One Chance At A Time". Your question made me think of the chorus of that song and I wanted to share it with you.
You get one chance at a life
To give your all and get it right
After all this time in mine
Everything I knew was telling me
To give it up and leave it all behind
But you get endless second chance
To take it once chance at a time
I had an illeostomy in December 2008. Not due to UC, but worsening effects of being born with spina bifida, which led to my colon totally shutting down.
Because of various complications, including needing to have my illeostomy revised twice and also having bdominal wounds like you, I spent more time in the hospital and extended care facility than I did at home last year.
I've tried my best to keep my spirits up and am usually quite successful, but occasionally I hit the wall and fall apart.
Then....I take it One Chance At A Time.
I'm thrilled that you are eating, doing and enjoying things that have been out of your reach for years.
My hope is that the difficulties that remain (job loss, wounds, etc.) are nothing than a pesky memory very soon.
All the best,
Peggy
