update from steven

Hi I am hi on morphine, low on prednisone and feeling very weak so excuse the quality of this posting.

1) surgery went "well" but do the doctors ever say that "oh your surgeyr was average"? If it was obviously bad they would fess up but I don't think its every "just ok".

2) I am very bloated, the stoma is still sleeping and my belly hurts.

3) the morphine is so overrated.

4) thank god I am a nail biter because the pain meds gave me an allergic 'itch' reaction. as i voraciously scratched so much it made no difference b/c there were no nails to hurt me.

5) they took my foley catheter out too early and had to put it back. #*(@*@&@ that really hurt. i had two pretty young nurses do the job as I shrieked. I never thought having two young women play with my charlee at the same time could be so unfun.

6) i walk around with a tube hanging out of my peepee and one out of myrectum. it really sucks to walk,..... burns

7) the guy next door to me died of kidney failure i think

8) my wife wants to make love already and i say no, its too early

todaysucks. dizzy, bloated, weak, ouch, ouch, ouch. just want the pain to stop. maybe i'll double up on the morphine and see if that helps.

  1. Itching from pain meds ... is it mostly in your nose? We call that "beak polishing" :D Hope your recovery is smoother, first few days are the worst.

  2. I second what tk said: the first few days are the worst. Talk to the nurses about the pain - you should be as comfortable as possible, but it might take a bit to get the meds just right.

The good news is: the pain you are feeling WILL get better in time. Unlike UC pain that was never-ending. You have to keep reminding yourself of that. This pain will pass. You are UC free now!! Congrats! :)

  3. Glad to hear that you are well enough to be able to write in your blog. After my surgery, there's no way I could have concentrated long enough. I'm looking forward to hearing from you at the UOAA site or by e-mail when you are feeling much better!

  4. That is a pretty picture you paint there Junior. I am imagining all these tubes coming out from you, hoping you have some pics for the blog :)

Seriously, there must be so much optimism in you. I am very happy for you for going through with this (of course, not happy about the UC). I look forward to visiting you ASAP. Just let me when you're up for it. I'll always remind you what you said 2 days before surgery.

  5. I quote what Mel wrote, this pain is normal (after a major surjery) and will soon end. This should give you hope now that you are UC free.
