Manageable.

I am reminded of a saying:

Life doesn't give a shit about what plans you have. Life has its own plans for you.

This really hits home for me after having 3 years of my life dominated by chronic illness.

I am so happy to have had surgery for my ulcerative colitis. Here's why: I've traded something unmanageable, horrible, painful and life threatening for something that is manageable. Difficult, but manageable. I have basic control again. Things can only get better from here.

Other news in the exciting world of Steven:

Today's big discovery was loperamide hydrochloride, aka Imodium. I'm starting off with one tablet a day. If this works, I'll be able to sleep through the night without having to visit the bathroom at 3:00am anymore. Now that would be nice.

By the way, as for the fistula that developed last week: The surgeon was not worried about it. Apparently it's par for the course. I still am grossed out but can learn to live with it.
