How Ulcerative Colitis bit me again

I now know why I was canned.

Despite my exemplary performance and do-it-all attitude I was sick for 2 months of the last year.

Despite their faith in my abilities and attitude: How could my bosses promise the head of the organization that I would not fall sick again?  How could they know with full assuredness that I would not fall prey to my chronic illness and cause a project to melt down?  I hate to say it but I understand why they canned me the way they did.  I believe they fought for me until the last minute and probably tried that as a tool, to give the chief no time to choose someone else.  But it didn't work out.  I can forgive them now that it all makes sense.

Fucking colitis.

Please feel free to comment.  I wish I knew who lurks around here.  Even a hello would be nice!

  2. Hello Steven. Your second sentence begs the obvious question: how could your bosses assure the higher ups that THEY wouldn't get hit by a bus and be unable to fulfill THEIR duties? pfft

  3. I also have lost jobs due to medical issues. It does suck and is not fair!!! I hope you get your health back after your surgery and healing.

  4. Steven,

It does certainly suck. I thought Canada had protections in place for things like this. It is disgraceful. But given your good attitude and the way you bounce back from everything, you'll be up and at 'em in no time with a new job.

Since you wondered who all is reading, it's me, Nancy, from the UOAA board.

  5. There's no way to protect against this as they can blame anything else for the cuts. Budgets, priorities, revenues, etc etc etc. So difficult to prove.

I think the only preventative is: Just make sure they don't see you ill.

  6. That's ridiculous. Although I worry sometimes that with the way the auto industry is, my bosses might see me as expendable since they are running fine will I'm out on disability. It's a scary thought. :(

  7. Most important is your health , and that comes first, job second priority, and your ex-bosses there is no guarantee for them either, when they will be sick,( not that I wish on anybody,) then they will realize if they are in similar shoes .there is no guarantee.in life ,
